Admired by vintage collectors today the 1948 Bowman baseball set was one of the postwar era's first mainstream sets. The 48-card issue features a close-up photo of the subject backed with player biographical information and an ad for Blony Bubble Gum. Despite being a relatively small set it remains a collecting challenge due to a difficult high-number series twelve tough single-printed cards and the rookie cards of Hall of Famers Ralph Kiner Yogi Berra Phil Rizzuto Warren Spahn Red Schoendienst and Stan Musial plus a number of other stars. Presented here is an extremely attractive high-grade complete 1948 Bowman set. The entire group has been graded by SGC with the grades high enough to rank #2 on the SGC Registry with a set score of 79.98. The set's GPA could be increased quickly and dramatically with a handful of minor upgrades; 29 of the set's 48 cards currently grade NM or better. A complete breakdown of the set's cards is as follows: SGC NM-MT+ 92 (1 card): #25 SGC NM-MT 88 (5 cards): #11 #19 #33 #44 #48; SGC NM+ 86 (2 cards): #26 #45 SGC NM 84 (20 cards): #2 #6 Berra #8 Rizzuto #12 #13 #14 #15 #16 #17 Slaughter #18 Spahn #24 #30 #31 #32 #34 #35 #38 Schoendienst #43 #46 #47; SGC EX/NM+ 82 (3 cards): #3 #22 #27 SGC EX/NM 80 (8 cards): #7 #20 #28 #29 #36 Musial #39 #40 #41 SGC EX+ 70 (2 cards): #9 #42 SGC EX 60 (5 cards): #1 Elliott #4 Mize; #10 #23 #37 SGC VG/EX+ 55 (1 card): #5 Feller. An exceptional high-grade set incredibly attractive in the black SGC holders a few upgrades shy of an average grade in the NM range. Certainly an outstanding set by any measure. 48 cards total.
