Beautiful colorful Jim Beam whiskey decanter produced to celebrate baseball's 100th anniversary in 1969. Standing over 10" high the colorful decanter remains in wonderful condition some of the gold coloring having worn off the embossed lettering but without ill effect. Our research indicates that a label identifying the contents was once present at the very base of the decanter; the label has long-ago been removed from this example. The reverse contains a statement with the massively incorrect opening line "The national pastime's first rules were written by Abner Doubleday in 1839...That same year he laid out the first baseball diamond at Cooperstown NY home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame." Still the piece describes what conventional wisdom held to be the genesis of the game. One of the more attractive and significant baseball-related whiskey decanters we have encountered.
