Lou Gehrig's only venture into acting the film Rawhide was a conscious effort to re-brand the Yankees hero as a more bankable celebrity in the vein of his teammate Babe Ruth. In the film Gehrig plays himself retired from baseball and raising cattle out west and somehow getting involved with a gang of outlaws who pressure the ballplayer to give them his ranch. A clip from the film can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0sLVCTZBbA Clearly not Citizen Kane. Memorabilia from the film is highly collectible today. Presented here is a wonderful movie poster dry-mounted with cellophane to 27" x 41". The colorful piece displays incredibly well some moderate wear at the folds and edges along with some minor toning. Promising "Daring Death Valley Dangers " the poster marks the Iron Horse's first and last venture into the motion picture business. While we can never be certain if Gehrig would have attempted another film had he not become ill we like to think this would have been the first and last for the Yankee captain.
