Spectacular midgrade Old Judge depicting Hall of Fame pitcher "Old Hoss" Radbourn. Graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by PSA the card exhibits extraordinary image quality with very little wear beyond that which is visible at the corners. One of six poses of Radbourn in the N172 issue this particular pose is checklisted as card 377-4 in The Photographic Base Ball Cards of Goodwin & Co. Radbourn won an astonishing 59 games in 1884 and although it was a different era his 678.2 innings pitched in 73 starts is still an exceptional number. That season he faced 2 672 batters and struck out 441 of them. In 1882 Radbourn hit the first walk-off home run in a 1-0 game in major league history an 18th inning blast ending a scoreless contest between Radbourn's Providence Grays and the Detroit Wolverines. Radbourn's cards are extremely desirable; he remains one of the most popular players of his era among today's hobbyists. Of the various Radbourn Old Judges to be graded by PSA just five have graded higher than this and this is the only example of this pose graded by PSA. A gorgeous card.
