Interesting example of Lou Gehrig's 1928 Exhibit card with a VG to VG/EX appearance on the front of the card. The card is however in POOR condition due to extensive ink writing and coloring on the reverse including something that not-so-closely approximates Lou Gehrig's signature. The card has been submitted for grading three times with our full knowledge that the "signature" on the reverse is not that of Lou Gehrig. It's not even a poor forgery. It is clearly the handwriting of "Bob" Vogeler who wrote his name on the left side of the card and proceeded to "sign" Gehrig's name on the right. Despite this and despite having submitted the card to both grading companies (one of them twice) with clear indications that we were not expecting the "autograph" to be authenticated the card was returned unholdered each time. The card itself is authentic. In fact at one time it resided in a PSA AUTH holder and was cracked and resubmitted by our consignor hoping for a POOR grade. Unfortunately we have had no luck since. Still an exceptional-looking 1928 Exhibit card an affordable example of a higher-dollar Gehrig card.
