This photograph was the "fun research project" of the auction. A standard-sized (approximately 5 1/4" x 7 1/2") cabinet mount surrounding a photo of what appeared to be a professional baseball game piqued our interest as did the pencil writing on the reverse that said "NY Giants vs Boston." Naturally we always ask questions when we see pencil writing on the back of a cabinet photo; anyone can write anything and that does not make it so. However when we magnified the scoreboard in left field we saw the names of eight National League teams which dated the photo to 1900 (the year the NL went to eight teams). With that we consulted stadium expert Tom Daley. Tom has helped us with research numerous times specifically with regard to stadiums and with this example we were stumped. The Boston Braves played their early 1900s games at the South End Grounds in Boston a park which was destroyed twice of which very few photos are available. In 1915 the Braves constructed Braves Field. While numerous photos exist of Braves Field the field was also renovated and changed multiple times; fences were moved in by 1921 the field switched around inside the stadium and other changes made between 1915 and 1952 which made it difficult to unequivocally identify the park. Within minutes of consulting with Tom however he produced a photograph of Braves Field from August of 1915 just before it opened. It was clear: we had our ballpark. From there we were able to zoom in on the scoreboard to see the games that were being played. New York @ Boston Brooklyn @ Philadelphia Pittsburgh @ St. Louis and Chicago @ Cincinnati. By consulting bosxcores we were then able to isolate the date of the game: May 26 1916. On that day John McGraw"s Giants clobbered the Braves by the score of 12-1. Braves manager George Stallings left pitcher Lefty Tyler in the game for the entire 9 innings to take the abuse; he gave up 12 earned runs on 14 hits. Though Tyler would go 17-9 with a 2.02 ERA for the Braves in 1916 this was not his best day.Larry Doyle had 4 RBI for the GIants and Fred Merkle and Dave Robertson both had three hits. Sailor Stroud got the win for New York; it would be his only win of the season.By consulting the National Baseball Hall of Fame"s uniform database we c
