One of the more interesting pieces that we have handled for this auction a 1914 coursebook from the "Baseball Correspondence League of America " providing individual "pitching lessons" from Christy Mathewson Walter Johnson Nap Rucker Ed Walsh Doc White and Smoky Joe Wood. The booklet conveniently measuring the size of a #10 business envelope was ostensibly available by mail to young athletes who wanted to learn the secrets of the greats. The pamphlet's 48 interior pages provide a host of life and game lessons ranging from how to get proper rest to how to throw Christy Mathewson's famous "fadeaway." Gratuitous use of pictures for demonstration purposes make the book an extremely attractive and interesting piece. Well-worn and used the piece is in VG condition with some folds and minor creases mild separation at the spine and worn corners and edges.
