The 1918 season begin with the New York Giants looking to build off their 1917 pennant and get back to the World Series. As the season progressed however the War became a sinister backdrop as players begin enlisting to serve their country. The Giants wound up finishing second 10.5 games behind the Cubs having lost pitchers Rube Benton and Jeff Tesreau as well as outfielder Benny Kauff to the war. Following a stern "work or fight" edict from the government the league determined that the season would end abruptly and after a flurry of doubleheaders designed to get last-minute games in the World Series opened on September 5 - the earliest World Series in the game's history. Presented here is a ticket for Game 70 at the Polo Grounds a game which never took place because of the season's early cancellation. Clearly removed from a season ticket book the pass is in outstanding condition (of course having never been used) with corners and edges clean and free of most wear. A wonderful season ticket to John McGraw's Giants with the shadow of the Great War looming over it and adding historical significance as the 1918 season was the only season shortened by war.
