Among our favorite types of baseball collectibles are those aimed at children. The concept of baseball as a child"s game resonates strongly with us here and we are always pleased to offer early baseball-themed collectibles that were initially made for children.Presented are two such items: An early pamphlet from Sidney Babcock"s Moral Instructive and Amusing Toy Books and a paper "Reward of Merit " both dating to the 19th Century and both featuring prominent baseball-related images.Babcock"s book a pamphlet bound by string is a small light digest-sized pamphlet featuring a variety of short stories based on the theme "Instruction and Amusement for The Young." In Good condition the binding is still intact despite overall wear and delicate pages (we do not recommend opening the book frequently as the string binding is beginning to unwind from the paper). The cover is decorated with illustrations of people engaging in a variety of children"s activities such as playing marbles badminton jump rope kite flying and such. Among these images is of course a baseball scene. The Certificate of Merit is printed on flimsy paper meant to be presented to a student by his/her teacher obviously for some sort of achievement. It exhibits wear and uneven cutting (probably was cut from some sort of book) and has obviously been written on by a teacher who presented the certificate to her student. Two very unusual baseball-related pieces well over a century old demonstrating the youthful early appeal of the game.
