By no means the greatest team in baseball in 1895 the New York Giants barely eclipsed a .500 record finishing 66-65 21.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles. Managed by Hall of Famer George Davis and with HOF pitcher Amos Rusie at the tail end of his career the team did not rebound from its 1894 World Championship well. Still this did not stop composer W. A. Gardner from writing a march dedicated to the team. Measuring approximately 10 3/4" by 15" this beautiful piece of memorabilia borrows engravings of Giants players from the N. Y. Evening World for its cover art. Featuring likenesses of Rusie Davis George Van Haltren Duke Farrell and W. H. Clarke there are a total of 16 players emblazoned on the cover. The piece exhibits natural age-related wear notably a paper clip mark at the top along with general edge and mild surface wear consistent with the age of the piece. None of this wear however detracts from the piece"s incredible eye appeal the engravings are al clearly visible as are the graphics on the cover. An outstanding memento of 19th Century baseball.
