Printed in Cuba on extremely flimsy paper the 1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo Felices issue is unbelievably condition-sensitive. Cuban baseball cards rare to begin with are often found severely worn but these cards even more so due to the thin paper. Folds tears and missing pieces are very common with this issue a 100-"card" caramel set that included many Negro League stars. An extremely difficult issue this card of Hall of Fame third baseman Ray Dandridge is one of the set"s key cards.Dandridge broke in with the Detroit Stars in 1933 before moving to the Newark Dodgers. Between the Newark Dodgers and Eagles Dandridge spent a large portion of his Negro Leagues career in New Jersey. Known for his slick fielding it was said (by none other than Hall of Famer Monte Irvin) that Dandridge never made more than two errors in a season.Sadly Dandridge"s career was over before he was able to play in the major leagues. He did however play for the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association between 1949 and 1952 before moving to the Pacific Coast League where he played with both Sacramento and Oakland. He lived long enough to see himself elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987 passing away in 1994 at the age of 80.This example of his Caramelo Deportivo card has been graded FAIR 20 by SGC due to overall creasing and wear consistent with the fragile nature of these cards. The quality of the image however is fantastic one of the more attractive examples from this issue. Scrapbook damage on the reverse helps contribute to the grade as does the ubiquitous creasing however the card"s eye appeal remains strong. An interesting and scarce Cuban card of one of the great third basemen of all time.Population DataSGC Population: 34 total graded 12 at this level 15 higherPSA Population: 18 total graded 0 at this level 4 higher
