The 1915 season was the first for Jacob Ruppert and Tillinghast "Cap" Huston as co-owners of the New York American League baseball team. The team finished 32 1/2 games behind the Red Sox in fifth place. On August 7 of that season the Yankees played a doubleheader against the equally-weak St. Louis Browns. The second game was played to a 10-inning tie Yankees pitcher Jack Warhop going the entire 10 innings for the Yankees. Evidently the game was to be replayed. On September 9 Huston sent this telegram to League President Ban Johnson asking to replay the game the following day. The telegram reads as follows: "If St. Louis Club is not playing could we possibly get your consent to play the tie game of August seventh tomorrow Friday the tenth which we have open. Appreciate immediate. T. L. Huston" The Browns who were in Cleveland and headed for Philadelphia for a four-game series with the Athletics could not have been happy about the short notice. The team did however make it to New York on the 10th where they defeated the club 3-1 behind the pitching of Earl Hamilton who defeated Dazzy Vance. The telegram is well-worn with some paper loss at the right edge but is otherwise in strong condition with excellent display characteristics.
