1933 original 8" x 10" photograph featuring Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the first commissioner of baseball. Conlon has captured Landis observing action at the Polo Grounds during the 1933 World Series Between the Washington Senators and New York Giants who prevailed in five games. It is perhaps photographer Charles Conlon's finest record of the man who, as his first major action in office in 1921, permanently banned eight members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox from organized baseball following their acquittal at the Black Sox trial. Photo remains a magnificent example of Conlon's mastery, with a central image exhibiting near-perfect tonal contrast. Verso includes Conlon's handwritten ID of Landis towards the top and "World Series 1933" at center.
