c.1929 original photograph of White Sox Hall of Fame spitballer, Urban "Red" Faber in action. After winning 16 games for the 1917 White Sox Faber earned three wins in the ensuing World Series, including a complete-game victory in Game 6. Two seasons later, after battling the flu all year, Faber was tragically unavailable to appear in the infamous 1919 World Series. Faber's battery mate, catcher Ray Schalk, contended that his presence on the World Series roster would have made the Black Sox scandal impossible as the conspirators wouldn't have been unable to secure enough pitching for the scheme to be worthwhile. Large format photo measures approx. 9" x 11.5" and has been unevenly trimmed along the bottom and right edges with wear visible above Faber's left shoulder. Verso remains largely blank aside from scattered handwritten pencil notations. Guaranteed Type 1.
