Collection of seven full and partial original newspapers from throughout the country with headlines related to the 1919 World Series, Black Sox scandal, and subsequent related inquires by Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis. All papers exhibit typical heavy wear inherent to over one-hundred-year-old newsprint, most significantly in the form of obvious toning and flaking of edges. Includes:

1) The Anaconda Standard (Montana), October 1-9 1919: Removed from a bound volume, entire printed newspapers from October 1 through 9, covering the entire Series up until the final game (which is previewed, but the game result would not have been published until the October 10 edition).  Very brittle, the first and last few pages of the publication have separated from the binding.

 2) Evening Tribune (San Diego), September 29, 1920: Corruption Bared by Williams, Felsch

3) Framed - Evening Tribune (San Diego), September 29, 1920: To Purge Baseball of Seven Crooked Players

 4) Evening Post (New York), September 29, 1920: Baseball Scandal Spreads, Gandil Called Go-Between, 'Lefty' Williams Confesses

5) Bay City Times Tribune (Michigan), October 1, 1920: Gandil Says he is Victim of Lies

 6) St. Louis Dispatch (St. Louis), January 6, 1927: Denial of Accused Players Weaken Risberg's Charges

 7) San Francisco Chronicle Sporting Green (San Francisco), January 12, 1927: Landis Will Announce His Verdict Today...

Seven full and partial newspapers total with one framed.

Note: the description of this lot has been updated to reflect the fact that the Anaconda Standard is not just one day's publication, but a section of a bound volume that contains newspapers from October 1-9.
