This example features Al Orth wearing a dark blue uniform in the middle of his pitching motion in front of a yellow and green background. Orth really stands out with the dark, bold colors of his pants, jersey, and cap, with the realistic action shot providing interest to this image. The corners are rounded and there are some minor surface abrasions in the background, not affecting the actual image of Orth. A couple smudges on the left border and a small crease near the top center further explain the card's technical grade. SGC has only ever graded 95 total examples of this Old Mill Southern League back version of the Orth, with only twenty-seven receiving a higher grade than the VG 3 offered here.

Albert Lewis Orth won more than 200 games as a pitcher during his 15-year career. While he had a few very good years (including 1901, when he led the league with 6 shutouts and a 1.001 WHIP), his best year was probably 1906. That year, he led the league in Wins (27), Complete Games (36), and Innings Pitched (338.2). That workload took its toll, though, as Orth came back in 1907 by leading the league in losses (21) and pitched fewer than 250 innings. He would be out of MLB after only 22 more games. He pitched in a handful of games in 1908 and 1909 for the Lynchburg Shoemakers of the Virginia League, as is depicted on this card.
