We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set - the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor quality control in the era which resulted in considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to chipping and wear.

The example offered here is card #242, Power Plus, graded NM-MT 8. Upon completion of the 1962 season, Ernie Banks and Henry Aaron had 3,216 hits and 633 home runs, 1,953 RBI, 3 MVP Awards, and 2 batting titles between the two of them in just 18 combined seasons. The two players were squarely in their primes, and already considered some of the greatest hitters who ever lived.

This entry in the 1963 Topps set features the two hitters in an image from a previous year's All Star Game. Centering is perfect, with bright white borders equally lining each side and the top of the card. Some light snow and fisheyes in the red bottom border, along with a lower right corner falling victim to the color loss and chipping so common to this set, are the only things keeping this card from grading even higher than it already has.

Only 30 out of the more than 2,100 examples graded by PSA have ever received a higher grade than the NM-MT 8 offered here.
