This bright, colorful example of Spike Shannon is one of the odder-looking cards
in the issue, and certainly not the most realistic illustration. A green
and yellow background lends the card its color, whose predominant hues are dark gray due to Shannon's uniform and cap. This offering features clean, white borders, with sharp edges and 90 degree corners not often seen in the T206 examples which have survived all these years. Some surface wear along the top border and a couple light smudges on the back are the main culprits keeping this exquisite example from grading even higher than it did. PSA has
only ever graded 14 total
examples of this El Principe de Gales back version of the Shannon,
with
only ONE receiving a
higher grade than the EX-MT 6 offered here.
Shannon was a Left Fielder who played 5 years in the Major Leagues during his 15 seasons in professional baseball. He stole 27 or more bases in four of his five MLB seasons, leading the Majors in runs scored during the 1907 campaign. On this card, he is depicted as a member of the Kansas City Blues of the American Association, where he played from 1909 through 1911.
