Exceptional group of eleven single-signed baseballs from members of the 1968 championship team. That team posted a phenomenal 103-59 record beating the St. Louis Cardinals in a seven-game World Series. Led by Cy Young winner Denny McLain (posting the last 30-win season we'll likely ever see) along with sluggers Willie Horton Jim Northrup Norm Cash and Bill Freehan the team is one of the most beloved in Detroit sports history. Collection includes: 1) Al Kaline (HOF) - Spalding OAL (MacPhail) ball signed along the bottom of the sweet spot by Kaline in blue ink as if to leave room for a manager's signature on a team-signed ball; 2) Bill Freehan - Rawlings OAL (MacPhail) signed in black ink significant toning and discoloration throughout though the signature and sweet spot presents well; 3) John Hiller - Rawlings OAL (MacPhail) signed in blue ink. Like many of the balls in Clotworthy's collection this is certainly game-used well scuffed and soiled; 4) Willie Horton - OAL (Brown) ball signed in black ink. Clean ball with very mild toning; 5) Mickey Lolich - OAL (Brown) ball presents well but has fairly severe water staining on the south panel; 6) Dick McAuliffe - Rawlings OAL ball clean and boldly signed in blue ink on the sweet spot; 7) Denny McLain - OAL (MacPhail) ball signed in black fiber-tip by the Cy Young winner mild toning and discoloration throughout; 8) Jim Northrup - OAL (MacPhail) ball clean and boldly signed in red ink with very mild toning; 9) Mickey Stanley - OAL (MacPhail) ball signed in black ink. Moderate toning with some residue on the east panel; 10) Don Wert - Rawlings OAL (Brown) ball moderate toning on the adjacent panels but clean and bold on the signature panel; 11) Earl Wilson - OAL (MacPhail) ball very clean with no discoloration. Please note that this item does not carry professional third-party authentication on the autograph however it is guaranteed to have been obtained directly by Dennis Clotworthy during his time with the team. Like all other autographed items we sell if the item has not been professionally authenticated we guarantee it will pass authentication with James Spence Authentication or PSA/DNA if submitted within 60 days of the auction close. Should the item not pass we will refund your purchase price in its entirety. Please refer to our auction rules and bid with confidence.
