The 1974 season saw the Tigers in transition rebuilding after the glory of their magnificent 1968 season and hoping to gain strength with young players from within their farm system. After posting just a .228 batting average Tigers hero Norm Cash was released on August 7 before the fan favorite got a chance to say the type of goodbye reserved for the game's greats. He remains one of the most beloved figures in franchise history his 1986 drowning a devastating blow to Tiger fans everywhere. Presented is an original press release from the Tigers organization announcing Cash's release. Opening "Norm Cash's career as a Tiger has come to an end." The release on Tigers press release letterhead also announces his replacement righthanded pitcher Fred Holdsworth who pitched a total of 15 games for the Tigers between 1972 and 1974. The release has clearly made the rounds with some ink marks and tape stains on the front as well as an ink mark on the second page. A sad document of a dark day in Tigers history.
