Issued in 1908 these real photo postcards are published by L.B. Coyle and come from a set said to include 15 members of the Pittsburgh Pirates and sold as souvenirs at Pittsburgh's Exhibition Field. It is said that an album was produced to house these postcards. Many of the postcards contain the publisher name rubber stamped on the left side of the card however this example does not. More interesting about this example is that it has been colorized as was a common practice among RPPC manufacturers. They are very rare; as of today just 7 of the 15 postcards have actually been catalogued. Mailed in the year of issue from Pittsburgh this example of Fred Clarke's postcard has been graded A by SGC ostensibly due to a slight trim to the right edge. The overall presentation and image quality is extremely strong however and obtaining a Hall of Famer from this extremely difficult issue makes technical grade much less relevant than overall eye appeal.
