Up until 2006 it was thought that the overwhelming majority of files and historical documentation from the Goudey Gum Company was burned up in the company furnace during the 1960s when business started to suffer. In 2006 however an exceptional archive of copyright submission cards from the 1933 and 1934 sets were unearthed and sold at auction. Presented is one of the pairs from that archive: the patent registration card and accompanying 1933 Goudey card of Walter Stewart card #121 in the landmark gum set. This card and the accompanying registration card was sent (along with similar cards for all the others in the set) to the US Copyright office for registration. Each of these cards are one of a kind and conveys some details about the publication of the set and even the illustrator of the cards (in this case Elmer Crowell who may or may not have been the same Elmer Crowell renowned for his handmade duck decoys). An exceptional pair of cards a part of Goudey history once thought to be lost forever.
