Incredibly rare wrappers from the second series of 1934-36 Batter-Up cards. The colorful wrappers advertised "1200 different photo art pictures in the series " as well as a "large photo art picture." The photo art picture likely refers to the National Chicle "Fine Pen" premiums. Regardless the wrappers from this series are extremely rare virtually never finding themselves into the hobby via auction. By late in the run for the Batter-Up set the National Chicle company was experiencing financial issues and by 1937 had sold their assets to Goudey Gum. Goudey ultimately halted the manufacture of the Batter-Up cards in favor of reviving the Diamond Stars brand selling Diamond Stars brand gum and utilizing the photographic premiums we know today as R303. For this reason the second series of Batter-Up cards are more scarce than the first and the wrappers practically nonexistent. Presented are two such wrappers each intact each with heavy wrinkles and folds. One example grades roughly VG to VG+ the other grading F-G due to a tear on the right edge. Both display very well two rare and colorful wrappers from one of the tougher sets of the gum card era.
