Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1945 by its Veterans Committee Fred Clarke was a player and a manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates during his major league career taking over managerial duties of the Louisville Colonels at just 24 years old and moving to the Pirates in 1900 in both capacities. He remained a player/manager until his retirement in 1915. An eventual team vice president Clarke remained with the Pirates well into the 1920s.Represented here on his T3 Turkey Red cabinet with the only major league team he ever knew Clarke"s image is splendid with very minor wear about the edges. The card"s greatest flaw is rounded corners along with some more pronounced chipping of the surface at the bottom right corner as well as some visible wear on the card reverse (which features the 1-75 checklist and is otherwise clean). One of the more affordable Hall of Famers in the Turkey Red set this card is one of the more attractive examples of this grade that you are likely to see as a fresh collection to the hobby it has seen very little of the circulation that causes significant wear to these cards. An outstanding middle-grade example of a Hall of Fame card from one of the hobby"s most popular sets.Population DataSGC Population: 9 total graded 1 at this level 1 higherPSA Population: 54 total graded 6 at this level 25 higher
