On May 7 1959 the Los Angeles Dodgers and their fans paid tribute to their great fallen catcher Roy Campanella. Just over a year earlier Campanella was driving home from the Harlem liquor store that he owned when his car hit an ice patch and hit a telephone pole breaking the catcher's neck and leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down. To help honor Campanella and help pay his medical bills the team held an exhibition game at the Los Angeles Coliseum against the New York Yankees. More than 93 000 people attended the game marked by a special fan tribute where the coliseum lights were extinguished between the 5th and 6th innings and fans were asked to raise their lighters and matches in tribute to Campanella. Presented is a ticket stub from that great night. In outstanding condition the stub displays two small sets of holes at one end each of which were created by a staple. The edges and corners of the piece are strong perhaps VG/EX condition with some very minor wear but otherwise quite display-worthy. Another wonderful piece of Dodgers history commemorating the team's honoring of one of its most important and beloved players.
