Absolutely spectacular tin measuring approximately 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 5 1/4" this colorful tin showcases illustrations of P.T. Barnum and J.A. Bailey amidst a number of circus-related scenes. One of the images on the tin depicts an illustration of the death of Jumbo the Elephant which occurred on September 15 1885 (the poor elephant was hit by a train) dating the piece to the late 1880s or 1890s. The hinged lid opens to expose an inner lid also hinged (though one of the hinges has come loose). Despite exhibiting a dark patina due to age the entire tin remains in outstanding condition extremely colorful with red white and blue accents throughout. Simply a sensational piece with a circus theme specifically related to Barnum and Bailey.
