Carter appeared as a relative unknown during the early days of the 1976 election campaign one of ten Democrats seeking the nomination. Carter campaigned aggressively choosing Minnesota senator Mondale as his running mate and subsequently ran against the unpopular president Ford. A host of buttons chronicle the 1976 election and inauguration as well as the subsequent 1980 election (which Carter/Mondale lost to the Reagan/Bush ticket).
