When it comes to Mickey Mantle the old saying "A rising tide lifts all boats" is certainly the case. As prices realized for the 1952 Topps issue continue to rise to the stratosphere prices for Mantle's subsequent issues are rising alongside it particularly in higher grades. Mantle's 1953 issue once an affordable alternative to the 1952 issue with NM examples routinely available in the $3 500 range as recently as 2013 has risen at an exponential rate. Just this Spring a PSA 7 example eclipsed $10 000 for the first time a bright well-centered specimen that generated significant bidding activity at public auction. This is a wonderful example graded NM 7 by PSA prior to the advent of the half-grade system featuring sharp corners and edges and exceptional centering for the issue. The card maintains its original color and gloss easily one of Mantle's most appealing cards issued at the very beginning of his Hall of Fame career the biographical information on the card reverse still referring to Mantle as a great prospect.
