Fleer's 78-card "Baseball Greats" issue included 77 of the game's greatest players from the past along with Ted Williams. One of the hobby's first "tribute" sets the set is still widely collected among hobbyists exploring the prewar segment of the hobby for the first time as well as among set builders seeking a lower-cost way of obtaining a "loaded" set of the game's early greats. This example a true "collector-grade" set grades 8% EX; 13% VG-EX; #26% VG; 21% G; 25% FAIR and 7% POOR with some of the lesser-grade cards exhibiting moisture damage that makes the cards wavy. Still the set itself is very attractive the key cards quite well-preserved considering the lower grades. The set's few keys grade as follows: #2 Mathewson G; #3 Ruth VG-EX; #6 Johnson G; #28 Gehrig EX; #42 Cobb G; #49 Anson VG-EX; #62 Wagner F; and #72 Williams VG+. An attractive set grading lower on the grading scale with the majority of the keys well-preserved.
