A number of the prewar hobby's most important cards have made the E90-1 American Caramel issue one of the hobby's most appealing and sought after. Cards of Ty Cobb Joe Jackson Honus Wagner and Ed Walsh provoke spirited bidding as does this card of Boston (or Cleveland) pitcher Cy Young. An illustration derived from a famous Carl Horner portrait the image of Young in his laced-up jersey an excess of red background behind him makes this card instantly recognizable. This example graded VG/EX 50 by SGC exhibits some discoloration at the upper left that while somewhat distracting does not interfere with the image of Young himself. Aside from that blemish the card is extremely colorful and well-preserved. Population DataSGC Population: 58 total graded 4 at this level 3 higher*PSA Population: 75 total graded 13 at this level 8 higher *NOTE that SGC has graded an additional 79 Youngs where the variation (Boston or Cleveland) is not identified; we are publishing population information for this card to give the bidder an idea of where a VG/EX example falls on the spectrum of condition scarcity for this card.
