I have one to sell!
Toward the middle of winter we were contacted by a gentleman who had come into a large collection of autographs most of which had been obtained through the mail over a lengthy period of time beginning int he 1940s. The collection included athletes from multiple sports - Hall of Famers and common players as well as figures from the political and entertainment world. Each autograph was carefully stored in plastic sheets inside binder pages many including newspaper clippings or photographs of the subjects featured in the autograph. The presentation quality was very strong largely due to the diligence with which the original collector assembled his binders. While many of the photographs were modern reproductions we discovered that ten of them were actual AP newswire photos featuring members of the Boston Braves. The photographs each display signs of aging but the primary condition flaw with each is simply curling a result of having not been stored in rigid holders. Included in this collection are the following: 1) AP Photo from 4/18/49 depicting Pete Reiser forced at second base with paper caption attached; 2) AP Photo from 4/19/49 depicting Alvin Dark sliding safely into home with paper caption attached; 3) AP Photo from 4/19/49 depicting Bob Elliott sliding safely into home with the winning run with paper caption attached; 4) AP Photo from 4/20/40 depicting Pete Reiser and Sibby Sisti receiving a first aid kit from a member of the Red Cross with paper caption attached; 5) AP Photo from 4/18/49 depicting Jeff Heath and Pete Reiser with paper caption attached; 6) AP Photo from 4/20/49 depicting Pete Reiser sliding into home (he was out) with paper caption detatched but present; 7) AP Photo depicting Bill Baker sliding into home (he's out) with the year "1946" written in pencil alongside the photo caption; 8) AP Photo from 4/18/49 depicting Johnny Sain and Ken Heintzelman shaking hands with paper caption attached; 9) AP Photo of Alvin Dark in batting stance paper caption missing.
