I have one to sell!
T206 Christy Mathewson cards are among the more iconic (and expensive) in the set. In our last auction we sold a high-grade "dark cap" version that pushed upwards of $2 000 in price; as one of the most widely-collected prewar players Mathewson always commands a premium and presentable examples quickly become unaffordable to the average collector. Typically auction houses place lower grade examples together with larger group lots making it difficult for the average collector to obtain a T206 Matty particularly with a tougher back. That"s why we have elected to break out some of the tougher T206 HOFers from the Rudy Strejc Collection into individual lots - to create some affordable lots for collectors to obtain a piece of an original-owner tobacco collection. This Mathewson displays extremely well with the "Authentic" grade stemming from a trimmed top edge. A small corner crease in the upper-left is the card"s other major flaw the Old Mill back is bold and vibrant with slight wear just a tad dirty. From the Rudy Strejc Collection.Population DataSGC Population: 12 total graded 2 at this level 10 higherPSA Population: 10 total graded 0 at this level 10 higher**Note that PSA has a significant number of Mathewson cards graded with an "Unknown Back." Since that company only recently began categorizing T206 cards by back variety it is likely that some of the "unknown" Mathewsons also sport Old Mill backs.
