Personal check made out to Carolina Telephone in March of 1988 and signed by Hall of Famer and Negro League legend Buck Leonard. While the check was made out in an unknown hand it was signed directly by Leonard using his first name "Walter " ostensibly after his stroke in the 1980s. 1988 was a special year for Leonard however as he was named honorary captain in baseball's All-Star game appearing wearing a Homestead Grays uniform. One of the earliest Negro Leaguers inducted into the Hall of Fame Leonard was elected in 1972.
