Personal check from the First National Bank of Carnegie PA hometown of Honus Wagner. Made out to Cash and dated May 17 of 1918 this $25.00 check has been boldly and neatly signed by Honus Wagner (signed "John H. Wagner"). Despite bank markings and cancellation stamps interfering with the signature on the check the presentation is extremely dark and strong. The check's greatest flaw however is that at some point it was mounted to a foamcore backing with some type of adhesive. The foamcore can be seen in the scan still attached to the check. While it is likely that a quality paper conservator could safely remove the check from the backing we also believe that the elegance of the signature and cleanliness of the check in general creates an outstanding presentation as-is and is easily suitable for inclusion into any framed display.
