One of just 35 Old Judge baseball cards thought to have been issued in the fall of 1886 rather than in 1887 this is one of two cards of outfielder Joe Gerhardt contained in the "script series" of Old Judge cards. This series contains the sixteen well-known "Spotted Tie" subset and nineteen additional cards of eight different players. The N172 issue is a complex set of cards indeed. Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC this particular example is extremely attractive with a quality image and very little wear beyond the typical edge and corner wear one would expect in this grade.
