Future All-Star and Mexican native Bobby Avila began his pro career with several seasons for Pueblo of the Mexican professional league and stints in the Cuba winter league, where MLB scouts often made offers to prospects they liked. Avila came from a business-minded family, which might explain why he turned down the first few, before accepting one from Cleveland. Avila spent most of his 11 year MLB career there, hitting well and netting the 1954 AL batting title. This CGC FR 1.5 is the second of his three winter league cards and shows an almost glowing Avlia crouched near the infield. The surface marks, uneven top edge, and somewhat faded reverse justify its technical grade, while also presenting well above that score! Great chance for a rare card of an MLB star and Mexican legend.
