Sharp, high-grade blank-backed proof of the 1962 Topps card number 531, of Bobby G. Smith. Sharp and clean, the card is a seldom-seen proof card, originally sold in the 1989 Topps archives auction. Of course Smith is pictured with the St. Louis Cardinals on his regular-issue Topps card; on this proof he is pictured with the Cubs. Smith began the 1962 season with Chicago, but by June had been traded to St. Louis; the late-season production of the high-number series apparently enabled Topps to correct his team before the card went into production. CGC has graded the card and memorialized it as originating from that auction, assigning a grade of NM/MINT 8. The card looks wonderful in the crystal-clear CGC holder, a tough and desirable example.
