Card #267-1 depicts Fred (or Ed) Knouff ostensibly sliding into a base. The card shows remarkable clarity and detail for almost any card, never mind the famous faded look of many surviving Old Judge cards today. His two-toned cap and striped pant leg are the star of this show, as details that would slip away from any card with an aged and fading image. Just an outstanding look, regardless of technical grade and player. Knouff himself benefited from star teammates Bob Caruthers and Tip O'Neill in helping St. Louis to a first place finish in 1887, though they lost its World Series to Detroit in 15 games.
The PSA VG-EX 4 grade reflects that amazing clarity, ideal at any grade, as well as slightly rounded corners with some edge chipping. This card spent at least some time being appreciated, as its back shows normal handling marks from a past owner. The population report shows four graded examples, with just one higher!
