Another colorful name emerges from the Old Judge set, as George “Foghorn” Miller (aka "Doggie") fetched his own stick and held it in a medium-focus pose, awaiting direction from the studio photographer, or perhaps a biscuit. Miller hit and fielded well for his day, amassing almost 20 WAR during his 13-year MLB career. His N172 fielding poses lack a chest protector because he refused to wear one, which meant he often played hurt from foul tips and other impacts behind the dish.

This PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 grade is a study in conditional balance. The edges, corners, surfaces, and clarity are all strong. The card’s appeal lies in its wide borders and centering, two areas often lacking in Old Judge due to an uneven photo production process. The PSA population report shows four graded examples for this pose, and this is its highest rated! Good boy, Doggie, good boy.

This card appears as #323-1's reference image on page 325 of the Old Judge photography book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings.
