One of four poses for outfielder Jack McGeachy in the N172 issue, catalogued as card 310-3. This fielding pose adds excitement with a light surface mark below the suspended studio baseball, looking for all the world like a tiny comet tail that Jack's afraid to put his hands on. Its stark, dark background highlights the lightness of his uniform, creating an unusual visual impression compared to most Old Judge cards. The level of contrast and detail is superb.
This SGC VG/EX+ 4.5 card shows slanting on three edges, with some dots of wear or ink on its lower right corner. The back is clean and largely unremarkable. While the "comet tail" haze could be a bit of surface wear, it adds something unique to the composition that you might not see on any other card! Combined population reports show up to eight graded examples for #310-3, with none higher than EX-NM 6.
This card appears as #310-3's reference image on page 318 of the Old Judge photography book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings in this auction.
