Patsy Tebeau broke ground as a longtime 19th century player/manager, commanding his teams (and doing so well) while playing anywhere his infield needed it. He proved more pedestrian at hitting but still managed a .279 career average over a 13-year career.
This impressive photo of Patsy at the bat retains enough details to show uniform padding that helped a runner avoid injury when sliding into bases, as well as damage from others who came in with "spikes high." Given its quality presentation, the SGC FR 1.5 grade appears to reflect the corner rounding and chipping, as well as its image and edge tilt. All three known examples on the SGC population report count as "low grade," so this high-quality image will be significant to collector demand.
This card also appears as #453-2's reference image on page 404 of the Old Judge book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings.
