Darby O’Brien was a popular and productive Brooklyn-based outfielder in the 1880s, and his card here earns an SGC VG-EX 4 for clean, balanced surfaces with minimal overall wear. The image shows above-average clarity, centering a bit southward, and bumps to each lower corner. Like some others in the Old Judge set, he hoists a beautiful ring-style bat. Combined population reports show about 16 graded examples, with this one rating highest on the SGC side! O'Brien passed young of tuberculosis, a tragic end shared by far too many of his era, when being simply hale and hearty wasn't enough to hold it back!
