Fred Mann’s fielding pose looks, dare we say it, crisp and defined on this almost luminous Old Judge card, well above average for a set best known for muddier backgrounds and fading caps, thanks to exposure to light. We can assume Fred's card received good care and perhaps protection within an album, as the card was clearly well-protected over the years. Five poses for Fred appear in the N172 set, four with these St. Louis Browns.
The SGC VG 3 grade offers more than that central image, as borders are also clean, with a slight angled cut on the right side. A smudge is seen near Fred's knee, with spots on the reverse that don't detract from its overall appeal. A pleasing low-grade example that gives mid-grade impressions! Combined population reports show just three graded examples for #291-1 and this might be its best looking.
