This SGC EX 5 grade shows a wonderful card, considering the photo stock's fragility. Corners, edges, and the front look unusually sharp, so perhaps it was protected inside an album for most of its life, rewarding us with this look today. Centering nudged to the southeast does little to distract from the significance of such cards. The SGC population report shows 11 total for Marsans, with just two scoring a half-step higher at 5.5!
1923-24 Billikens were produced for that winter league baseball season as cigar premiums during a short, active period for Cuban card issues. They feature real player photos, leaving them somewhat more vulnerable to fading and handling damage than more conventional cardboard sets. They can retain beautiful detail and document a number of players from that era who don't appear on many cards or photos. Love of the Game is pleased to offer several cards from this set as part of our larger offering of Cuban issues.
