"Wild Bill" Hutchison became the first Yale alum to play professional baseball and posted a nine-year career, with a Koufax-like peak from 1890 to 1892. During that three-year span, Hutchinson led the league in wins, games, starts, complete games, innings pitched, and batters faced each season. He had 250+ strikeouts in each year, outpacing all major league pitchers with 314 in 1892.
Hutchison has four different poses in the N172 set, and this "hand high" pose also features a distinct "Hutchinson" banner by his feet, perhaps in recognition of his amazing feats on the mound. It's the one example of this pose graded by SGC, and the PSA population report shows one as "authentic," making this a special find regardless of its low grade, with surface wear and discoloration on front and back.
