This card shows phenomenal and eccentric Hall of Fame pitcher Rube Waddell against a lovely pastel background, with imagery that overcomes over a century of wear. The nickname "Rube" says more about how clubhouse colleagues saw him than it does for most players of that era and his biography makes for fascinating reading. Whatever his personality, Waddell set strikeout records that took decades for other legends to eclipse. It's a shame Rube's own life ended well before the Hall itself existed to induct him. The St. Louis jersey marks his last stop in the majors, as his fading physical abilities took him to the minors after 1910.

The SGC FAIR 1.5 reflects its rounded corners, vertical crease, and modest foxing on front and back. Its reverse is a Piedmont 350/25 back. Overall, the centering and color for Rube befit the Hall-of-Famer's pose, stature, and impact. It offers an affordable way for collectors to add a Hall of Famer so significant to the deadball era.
