Stunning, large-format lithograph featuring the artwork from the well-known Nelson Morris trade card issued between 1890 and 1892, promoting the company's various brands of lard. The colorful trade cards depict a group of pigs playing baseball in front of other porcine spectators, a number of other pigs in the background sitting in (or falling out of) trees, watching the game. The Chicago-based company used their trade cards to advertise their product line, through the use of whimsical art that has been a favorite of collectors for some time.

The first such example we have encountered, this is a brilliant, framed lithograph containing the same image, the large size revealing outstanding detail, including things not as easily seen on the small trade card.  The piece has been professionally matted and framed to a finished size of approximately 27" x 21" with a Plexiglas face. The wood frame exhibits some minor chipping and scuffing here and there. The piece itself displays wonderfully, at first glance in outstanding condition. The extreme edges of the piece exhibit a slight waviness consistent with a long-ago trim, and some minor staining, predominantly along the right edge, also evident. The edges also exhibit some tiny tears and chips in places, mentioned here for accuracy but certainly not detrimental to its outstanding visual appeal. Obviously, the frame prohibits us from examining the reverse of the piece, but a thorough examination of the front reveals no signs of restoration. An outstanding 19th Century display item, a large-format print of a well-known baseball-themed advertising trade card.
