Jack Meyers debuted as Giants catcher in 1909 and held down that role for several years, finishing in top-10 MVP (Chalmers Cup) voting for all three years of that award's existence, 1911-13. It's worth wondering what he could have done with more time in pro ball, as he started comparatively late in the minors at age 25 and reached the majors at 28. (We doubt he worried about that particular fact when making four World Series appearances for John McGraw.)
S74 silks rate among the most interesting of early 20th century issues, as they combine two odd bedfellows, ballplayers and actresses, in a format that recommends you treat its pictures more like cloth patches or home decor. It's a minor miracle that any fragment of satin survived so well for so long and the limited number of graded examples reflects that fact. Its SGC VG 3 grade reflects typical fraying along its horizontal edges, with modest toning along the middle fold. The back remains in excellent shape, with clear text and good edges. Rarity often trumps technical grade when hunting for silks, as SGC's population report shows four total Old Mill examples and just one graded higher!
