With a checklist identical to that of the 1973 Topps issue the O-Pee-Chee cards of 1973 mirrored the American baseball set save for a notation on the cards that they were printed in Canada. The cards themselves however are slightly more scarce than their American counterparts and certainly more condition-sensitive. Presented is a complete set of 1973 O-Pee-Chee baseball all ungraded along with a complete set of 1973 blue-bordered team checklists. The set is especially attractive but as is the case with all the earlier O-Pee-Chee issues the cards are plagued with rough cuts. Some collectors appreciate rough cuts because they serve as an indicator that the card is cut naturally and has not been altered. Others prefer the straight edges of a clean-cut card. What cannot be avoided however is that O-Pee-Chee cards simply suffered from a lack of quality control (and sharp cutting dies) resulting in a preponderance of rough-cut edges. Condition-wise we attempt to grade the cards (as do the grading companies) irrespective of the rough cuts but it is not always an easy prospect because the edges sometimes soften the corners. We would estimate the technical grade of this set to be 11% NM or better; 27% EX-MT; 38% EX; 22% VG-EX; and 2% lesser. However the cards are fare more attractive than their technical grade the primary flaws being the aforementioned rough cuts resultant corner softening minor corner dings and centering. Creasing is virtually nonexistent as are other wear-related flaws. A breakdown of the keys is as follows: #50 Clemente (VG/EX); #90 Brooks Robinson (EX/MT OC); #100 Aaron (EX); #130 Rose (VG); #142 Munson (VG/EX); #160 Palmer (EX); #170 Killebrew (EX); #174 Gossage (NM); #175 Frank Robinson (EX); #180 Jenkins (EX/MT); #190 Gibson (VG/EX); #193 Fisk (EX/MT); #220 Ryan (EX); #230 Morgan (EX); #235 Hunter (EX/MT); #245 Yaz (EX/MT); #255 Jackson (VG/EX); #28 Kaline (EX); #300 Carlton (EX/MT); #305 Mays (EX); #320 Brock (EX/MT); #330 Carew (VG/EX); #330 Seaver (VG/EX); #370 Stargell (EX); #380 Bench (VG/EX); #400 Perry (VG/EX); #410 McCovey (VG/EX); #472 Gehrig (VG/EX); #474 Ruth (VG/EX); #480 Marichal (EX); #545 Cepeda (EX); #615 Schmidt RC (VG/EX). This is a beautiful set. Each card boasts exceptional eye appeal even within the grade. Even the lower-grade cards possess excellent eye appeal. 660 cards total.
