This sharp set of Latin American and Negro League players features photo-paper fronts that far surpass newspaper quality of their day, bringing us closer to games played a century ago. Many of its players appear their best on Aguilitas cards, as light backgrounds and simple lettering put features and expressions into sharp relief. Cuban outfielder Valentin Dreke appears to be wearing an Almendares team cap, which dates this photo to early 1920s winter league ball.
This SGC VG/EX 4 rating reflects its superior central image, centering, and great edges that equal that of higher technical grades. Residue marks on the reverse, probably from an album mount, are the only mark against it. The central image remains almost impossible to improve upon, regardless of technical grade. Its population report shows 15 total SGC/PSA graded, with just three higher!
